Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) Program
What is the OSTC Program?\ The Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) Program, established by Act 85 of 2012 and amended by Act 86 of 2016, provides scholarships for eligible students residing in the attendance zones of low-achieving schools to attend participating public or nonpublic schools.
Old Forge Junior-Senior High School Designation: The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has identified Old Forge Junior-Senior High School as a low-achieving school for the 2023-24 school year based on state assessment performance. This designation places the school in the lowest 15% of performance rankings statewide.
How the OSTC Program Works: Who is Eligible?
- *Students must live within the attendance zone of a designated low-achieving school.
- Families must meet income eligibility requirements. For the 2023-24 school year, the maximum annual income for a family of one is $108,444. This amount increases by $19,088 for each additional dependent in the household.
- How to Apply:
- *Parents/guardians must apply through an approved Opportunity Scholarship Organization (OSO).
- A list of approved OSOs is available on the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) website.
- How Much Can a Student Receive?
- *The maximum scholarship amount is $8,500 per student.
- Special education students may qualify for up to $15,000.
- Renewal:
- *Students who previously received an OSTC scholarship remain eligible even if their home school is no longer designated as low-achieving.
