Virtual Learning Press Release

The Old Forge School District continues to monitor the COVID transmission in our area. COVID case numbers continue to rise in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but more importantly, the District is witnessing a strong increase in the number of students and staff members requiring quarantine. As such, we will transition to virtual learning for the two weeks following the Thanksgiving holiday and the winter recess. This move is in an abundance of caution to protect the health, safety and welfare of our students and staff.

The District will be virtual during the following dates:

  • Tuesday, December 1, 2020 to Friday, December 11, 2020
o   We will return to the hybrid schedule on Monday, December 14, 2020
  • Monday, January 4, 2021 to Friday, January 15, 2021
o   We will return to the hybrid schedule on Tuesday, January 19, 2021

At present, the District is working with the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association (LIAA), as well as ascertaining information for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) on winter sports. The District will delay the official start of the season. A formal date for the official start of winter sports will be discussed on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the regular school board meeting.

The Board will pass official resolution of this issue at the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. This is a combined Informational Session and Regular Board Meeting. The Board meeting begins at the conclusion of the Informational Session which begins at 6:00 PM.

If the parent of an identified student would like additional information on the programming for children with IEPs, please call Ms. Hopkins at 570-457-6721 Ex. 136.

If a family requires a computer device or assistance with internet service, please contact the District at 570-457-6721.

The District will continue to monitor the transmission of the virus and its local impact and update you with any changes. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
